An Update from the
East Suffolk Water Management Board
The East Suffolk Water Management Board have issued an update on the work they are carrying out on the Alde and Ore river defence upgrades. And we are pleased to share it below.
The secured funding has enabled them to move ahead with critical flood defence upgrades at Snape Maltings and Snape Village. They expect to begin construction in late 2025. These improvements will strengthen our estuary’s resilience, protecting homes, farmland, and wildlife for generations to come.
Now our focus turns to raising funds for essential upgrades to the Lower Estuary defences, and the remaining flood cells in the Upper Estuary at Iken and Aldeburgh.
With the ongoing support of our community, we remain committed to safeguarding the entire estuary and we appreciate every contribution—whether donating, volunteering, spreading awareness, or attending community meetings. Your support helps ensure the long-term success of these crucial flood defences. If you would like to make a donation, you can find the details here.
The East Suffolk Water Management Board hosted a Q&A on Monday 7th April at Snape Village Hall which was well attended. This included a presentation by Pete Roberts, Upper Alde & Ore Project Engineering Delivery Manager.
